On the 14th of July, UK businesses within the automotive industry benefited from a unique networking event in Birmingham. The aim of the event was to help guide manufacturers (OEM) to suppliers and vice-versa.
The event, which was co-ordinated by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), was created to promote sourcing from local suppliers with aims of building a stronger UK-based supply chain. There had been a great deal of interest in trustworthy local suppliers from global vehicle manufactures, such as Ford, Aston Martin, JCB and Nissan, all of whom attended the event.

Texting at networking events is just rude isn’t it? Well, a Wearside entrepreneur could be about to change everyone’s opinion!
Ken Fryer has developed a service which offers an innovative text service at networking events. The idea’s fairly simple; attendees note down their contact details when they arrive at the event. Then other people can access their details and send them a text to arrange to meet up at the event. It’s been designed to ensure that everybody gets to meet who they want to meet and hopes to stop people missing out due to time restraints or lack of knowledge. (more…)

The idea is simple; pick 20 images and talk about them for 20 seconds. That’s it! After the presentations you get the chance to meet other speakers and hopefully exchange key contact details. The events can be held anywhere from bars to football stadiums and attract creatives from a whole range of industries. (more…)

Like all the best meals, the success of networking is all about the preparation. Taking the time to get all your ingredients together and coming up with a plan of attack is vital to constructing a culinary masterpiece and the same can be said for networking.
OK, so you’re still going to be able to attend a networking event should you forget the butter but if you don’t perfect your networking ingredients then you might as well not bother turning up in the first place! Every networking event is different – the purpose might be the same for each one but every event should be treated as an individual to achieve maximum success. (more…)

Freelancers… an odd bunch aren’t they? They drift from job to job and don’t ever really have a definitive boss so they can often be hard to pin down.

Networking can provide freelancers in any industry a chance to meet with employers and chat to other freelancers in the same field and it effectively means the life of a freelancer doesn’t always have to be a lonely one.
