Microsoft Outlook adds social media feeds

Imagine an e-mail system that allows you to manage all social media networks in one place… This week Microsoft announced changes to Outlook which will allow you to do just that.

The 500 million users of Outlook will soon be able to check their updates and notifications on popular business networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, without having to leave the comfort of their own e-mail system. This is great news for the growing number of businesses who rely on social media sites to stay in touch with key contacts. 2014: A fifth of firms will use social network over e-mail

Analyst Gartner has predicted that by 2014, 20% of all SMEs will use social networking as their main means of communication.

Recent research has shown that many SMEs use online networking as the primary means of networking and this popularity has led to more demand for systems such as Facebook and Twitter. It’s thought greater security and a wide choice of programmes have led to increased toleration from businesses for staff members to use personal accounts for networking purposes. Gartner doesn’t believe that e-mail will be wiped out completely though. (more…)
